Lake Cowichan Animal Rescue Society is a volunteer-run, non-profit, animal rescue organization located in Lake Cowichan BC.  The society was formed  in October of 2006 when we applied to become a registered charity in our own right.  We ensure that all animals are spayed or neutered, tattooed and have their basic inoculations prior to adoption.

We are hoping in the near future to have a shelter to give a home to those that are placed into our care until we can find a forever home for them.

We receive no funding other than donations.  These go directly to animal care.  Maintenance expenses (e.g. bank charges, insurance etc.) are covered by proceeds raised from fund raising.   No remuneration of any kind will go to any volunteer or board member of the Society.

History of the Society

Prior to the organization of the Society, there was an increasing awareness in our community of the lack of a formal management program to rescue or rehome animals.  Annually, many calls came to the town office complaining of feral cats; stray dogs; and increasing populations of both uncared for.

A small but very dedicated group of people, with good support from the town, came together in the fall of 2006 to register the Lake Cowichan Animal Rescue Society.  Our first meeting as a registered entity was held November 2006.
