The Society advocates for responsible, respectful and compassionate care of animals within our community; collaborates with other rescue organizations & resources to meet the needs of homeless animals; ensures sterilization of all animals prior to adoption; and participates in public education. To ensure animals from our society do not contribute to increasing the local population, the society pays for the veterinary services to neuter and spay the animals before reintroducing them to their environment. Adoptions:Lake Cowichan Animal Rescue Society offers cats, kittens, dogs, puppies
and other pets for adoption when available. All animals are altered, tattooed,
immunized and in good health. Adoption fees apply. RelinquishmentMany of the animals that Lake Cowichan Animal Rescue provides care for and
eventually re-home, come to the society through relinquishment. Pet
owners who find that they can no longer provide for an animal seek assistance to
find a new home for their pet. Stray cats and dogs needing permanent
homes find their way to us usually with a little help from their human
friends. Unwanted kittens and puppies need new homes, too.
Feral Cat RescueMany of the cats that come to be in the society's care are strays, belonging
to what are known as "door-step colonies". These are animals that come
regularly to the same house for food. Sometimes these cats are very shy,
sometimes feral (wild), and sometimes very tame. Those that are tame or just
shy are adoptable and after being spayed or neutered and vaccinated suitable
homes are found. Feral members of the colony are caught using live traps then
altered, immunized and released. Contact us for more information.
