Roasting Kittens Find Warm Homes

In April of 2007 the Lake Cowichan Animal Rescue Society received a telephone call from a landlord seeking assistance.  His tenant was gone leaving behind  two cats that had been coming and going through an open window.   Both  cats were female and one of them had a litter about six weeks old.  The other cat also appeared to be lactating but her babies were not readily visible.  Did she have them outdoors?  Or were they hidden in the house?  The landlord provided the rescue volunteer with a flashlight and eventually four tiny kittens, only two or three days old, were found in a roasting pan under a chesterfield!  Both queens and their litters were moved into foster homes where they stayed until the kittens were weaned.  After being altered and immunized they were adopted into new homes.

Three Legged Kitten Hops to Happiness

It was a lovely warm evening in August when a young family walking in Saywell Park spotted a small kitten that was dragging a hind leg.  No one will ever know how she broke her leg which had become infected.  Unfortunately the leg had to be amputated however the kitten was placed in a foster home where she recovered without any further problems and now she is just as active as any other kitten.  Angel  lives with her adoptive family who know how special she is.

Olympic Kitty

On a September weekend a young person tubing on the river heard  the cry of a small kitten along the river's edge.  When the rescuer drew closer he realized the kitten was barely holding its head above water and he quickly scooped it up to safety.  Recovery was rapid, weeks passed, a trip to the vet and then adoption into a new home.  A lucky kitten indeed.
